Anyone travelling in Europe this fall?

Postby Nutty » Tue 29 Jun 2010 13:08

Hi everyone!

My name is Marielle, I'm 20 and from Toulouse (south of France). I plan to travel around Europe in two times:
- first, this fall: from the end of sept. or the beginning of oct. until late nov. or early dec. to visit the southern countries,
- second, after the holidays (and the cold): in february and march around the northern countries.

ITINERARY
I haven't really planned it, since I'm waiting for people to tag along (and I believe you have a right to discuss where you want to go the most). Although I think it'd be better to travel the south of Europe when it's still warm (*beaaaaches, yaaay*). Meaning I'd rather go to (maybe Germany) Italia, the Dalmatian Coast, Greece and the Balkans this fall and to Benelux (this is Belgium, Luxembourg and Nederland), Germany, Denmark, Poland, Ukraine (not sure it is spelled this way in English^^), Estonia, Latvia and all of this coutries that end with a "a", Sweden of course (what? This is mother country to every H&M lover!), Finland and Norway and, last but not least, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England (Rainy countries. Brrr.) early next year. France, I guess, would be visited first, since I plan of starting from here, but it's opened to discussion (I personnaly know it already).

This would mean spending 3 days in every country, but it's not written in stone. I mean, we can spend a day in... as an example, Luxembourg (smaaaaallest country ever!) and a week in Germany.

You've probabely noticed, I'm not planning on going to Spain or Portugal -that would be a detour. And since those countries are on the way to Marocco, Algeria and Tunisia, I'll visit the 2 first when I'll go to Maghreb. But it's also opened to discussion.

HOW TO TRAVEL
I'd like to travel by train, with the INTERRAIL. http://francais.interrailnet.com/enfr/
It provides a free-pass to all European coutries (and I'm not only talking about EU) after, of course, paying 400€ (if you're under 25 and a bit more if you're older). I don't know, you should hit the price table. The pass is available up to 1 month, but it's possible to buy two... I think it's the best way to travel -and trust me, I don't really like trains, it's just I like my money and I don't want to waste it on planes or a car.
I'm not against hitchhiking when it's done safely, or buses, or walking, or riding a bycicle or jetpacking... anything's good since I'm not planning on visiting main cities only. I'd love to see smaller cities, meet the people, talk to them, walk through forests and sleep on a not-so-crowed beach.

ACCOMODATION
I'm crazy about backpakers hostels or B&B (which is... basically the same, right?): you meet other travellers there, it's fun and not really expansive. Ok, sometimes it's dirty, but not all the time! And you can sleep in dorm rooms, which means you never sleep but you laugh so much! Or not, but it's still fun. We'll sleep when we'll be old, right?
I'm also up to couch surfing, crashing at friends' places... I just don't want to sleep under bridges.

LOOKING FOR...
Anyway, here's the most important part of my add: the kind of people I'm looking for. I think it's really -really- important to travel 1) with people that understand travels the same way; 2) with people you get along with. I know it can be hard to travel with a backpack with not much food in your stomach and not much sleep behind you, I know it can be difficult sometimes, physically but also mentally. I'm only 20, I travelled in Australia (not all Australia though) so I'm not looking for backpackers that already went around the world (but if that's your case, you're welcomed to tag along!) since I haven't myself. But I don't want to get into something that big with people that can't hold problems (cause there will be some) and manage to get passed them. If I end up in a not so good situation, I'm the kind of person to try my best, right away, to get out of it. If you never travelled that way (with only a backpack) and can't be 100% sure you won't let me, and other friends, down after 2 weeks, then I suggest you pass this time. Also, touchy people? I don't like them, and they don't like me either, so... well.

WHO AM I?
If you haven't run away yet -which is a good thing since I don't bite^^- I'm now going to introduce myself properly. I believe it's also important to like the people you travel with. So here we go:
I'm a student in History; I don't really like History and I hate studies. This little paradox got me into studying from home, which I usually do two weeks before the final exams. It went well the first year, I'm on my second year, it went well so far -just have some more exams to pass in september but it'll be cool^^ No worries. I know you worry deeply about my school "issues" as much as I do -which is... not... so much, ANYWAY! I use my free time to work in order to get money, in order to travel... which brings us here. It's been a year and a half since I came back from Australia and I so want to get out of France. Besides Australia, I've been to England, Sicili, Marocco and Spain. Also, I know France quite a bit, mostly the south of course.

I really like to travel and meet new people. I like to know where I'm going but I'm not planning every day of my travels. I love to party -I end up drunk at half of my parties but not in a creepy kind of way -I don't do drugs and stuff like that- so... creepy people, if you hear me, just... go away lol
I also like to do nothing and just rest on the beach or going to the aquarium (I love those!). Being a student in History, I kinda like museums and old stuff so I might drag you into a church and talk about art like if I know something about it. And then I'll laugh because it's hard not to laugh in a place where you can't make noise (churches freak me out a bit). But for example: in Italia, I'll go to that museum in Florence 'cause I absolutely wanna see the David, I wanna see the Sixtine Chapelle; in Greece, I'll go to the Pantheon; in Germany I wanna see Auswitsch... and so on.

I like sport (mostly soccer, handball), I like to walk everywhere, swim... rafting and kayak can be cool. I don't like ski though, I'm a public danger on skis. But if we end up on a mountain and you wanna ski, I'll be happy to wait for you where they serve food. I also love attraction parcs (I heard Walibi in Belgium is a killing machine and there's a Movie World somewhere in Germany -you'll find me there).

I won't taking my laptop around Europe, but I do love it and I'll miss it greatly. I love cinema (anything but Twilight) from musicals to science fiction movies and dramas... I'm not a geek, but I do love tv shows like one (not a Trekkie though^^) such as Six Feet Under, Buffy & Angel, Friends, Farscape, True Blood, Leverage, Castle, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy... I read a lot of books (by Steinbeck, Lovecraft, Burroughs...) but also comics (DC comics mostly, The Walking Dead, Sin City...), I write novels and I like to draw. I love music even though I don't play any instrument (and I'm pretty sure Chinese would be less difficult to learn for me than sol-fa). I listen to ACDC, Ben Harper, the Black Eyed Peas, Bob Dylan, Dean Martin, Diana Ross, Edith Piaf, Eels, the Sinatras, Gorillaz, Hocus Pocus, Jacques Brel, Michael Jackson, Noir Désir, Queen, Gossip, Kate Bush...

On a food level, I'm pro McDonald's and pro Lady Gaga. ... Oh, that didn't come out well. I also listen to Lady Gaga, I think she's wonderful and also a bit scary. But still. She's rocking alright. I think Nutella is the best food ever (yeah, I think Nutella is food!), I'm allergic to peppers, I drink scotch, died coke and tea. Not mixed together. Never.

I speak English and French (mostly French, really^^), I studied German for 7 years but had a post-traumatic reaction to it and today I only know how to say "my feet hurt". I know how to read a map AND polish my nails (which can come handy in a deadly situation, don't underestimate the power of nailpolish). I've got my international driving license and can cook. At least pasta.

Ok, so now if you think I'm just crazy enough for you and haven't left yet, there's hope we can travel together. Seriously, it'd be cool! I don't care if you're a woman or a man, if you love Twilight and hate Gaga (we'll have passionnate debates! *always see the bright side*), if you're from France or England or I don't know, Ouzbekhistan; if you're my age or older, if you like boys or girls, if you're black, white, green, blue with red spots, I don't care. Just know that if you're open-minded, like to laugh and only like drama in movies and books, then we'll get along.

I hope you all have great travels and a great day/summer/life, yadda yadda. But I do mean it^^

Kisses,
Marielle :moto:

Sounds amazing xD
A bread truck? :D Not exactly what I have planned but it could be fun^^ The only thing is, if I understood correctly, you're going to leave France pretty soon, right? But I can't leave before the end of september... I have boring tests to pass at the university...
When exactly will you leave for Koln?

lol Bretagne? Is that where you are? I can't get away right now, I work almost every day and can't really afford to waste the money I make on travels before this fall. Also, I don't really know who you are. No offense, but I think we should talk about our plans first and then, maybe, try to meet. There's no point in meeting if we realize we won't travel together. So... answer my question, please? That'd be a start^^
