S.E. Asia, OZ, NZ and Fiji - Jan 2011

My name is Jem and I'm a 22 year old student in my final year of uni. I would like to start travelling at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb 2011. So far my plans are to fly into Bangkok and then travel around Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Sumatra by train, coach or other cheap means of transport. Whilst there I would like to pack in jungle treks, beaches, elephant treks, temple visits, maybe a cookery course, trip to see the orangutans etc etc. This would be a backpacker trip, staying in hostels and travelling on a budget. From there I was planning on possibly travelling to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. None of this has been booked and I'm open to suggestions. I plan to travel for 4-5 months. I went on a gap year when I was 18 and travelled alone and although I had a great time I would like to travel with someone this time.
About me: I'm adventurous, fun, I love to explore and meet new people. I'm also reliable and sensible.
I'm looking for someone of a similar age, preferably female (and preferably from the UK so that we can plan our trip together) who loves to have fun and explore - hope to hear from you soon so we can start planning

Nice trip idea. I went to thailand, indonesia, malaysia and i could tell you about these countries if you want.
I am planning to go to new zealand for one year starting from sept/oct 2010.
May be we can make a part of the road together in new-zealand if you go there.

been to thailand, oz and kiwi zones. so info at hand if want it.
but i'm hoping to trip out to india! starting in delhi, varansi,udaipur lakes,jaipur,agra then out east to chennai and tirumala hill, pondicherry and mamallapuram. and finally across to keralan backwaters, varankala, alepey, cochin, kovalam. and finally to fly home from mumbai.
so should you change direction or meander across i hope to book up and scat out in next few wks.
a 3/4wk hol. very flexi. so theres opportunity for a join-up for part of if not all?

but hedging that way at the mo. travelling alone has been batted on the head -too much of a peoples person.

Thanks for your reply and sorry I haven't got back to you sooner!! I'm afraid I'm not looking to go travelling until next january as I'm still at uni at the moment and can't get any time off. I hope you have an amzing time in India though and good luck with finding a travel companion .

i have not been travelling before so was told it might be better to do it the other way round but am not to bothered reli. am planning to leave jan/feb 2011 and to go for about 6 months ish

i am 21 male from hampshire and have spent the last 4 years completing an apprentiship in engineering i am currently working as an engineer during the week and a doorman at weekends saving money for the trip im pretty laid back and easy to get on with and am after seeing some of the world and having a good time before settling into a new job.

would be good to find someone to travel with as altho i know i would have a good time on my own it is always nice to have some company, feel free to get in touch if you want to chat

I'm looking at the same sorts of places as you guys around the same time, but I'd probably only join you for 1-2 months of the trip as im planning to go back home in between places over the year to keep the significant other (and my family) happy

New Zealand, Thailand and Fiji/or Malaysia are definitely on my list and i'd be doing it backpacker style too. If you're planning on spending a couple of weeks or a month in each of these places I'd definitely be up for it. Terrified of doing it on my own!
